Stockton Foreclosure Disaster

The foreclosure disaster has hit Stockton like Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. The only difference is Katrina was an act of nature while the foreclosure crisis was man-made. On September 6, 2008, Chairman Barney Franks of the House Finance Committee along with Congresswoman Speier, Congressman Cardoza and Congressman McNerney held a hearing to take testimony regarding the foreclosure crisis that hit the Central Valley. VHB was chosen to testify and give a professional opinion on this matter. This crisis has had a huge domino affect all over the country and especially Stockton. I invite you to take a look at the testimony. Based on the testimony given that date we can only hope that Stockton will be the recipient’s of the Economic Stimulus Act for our community .We are still #1 in foreclosure in the nation.

It is important as a community we come together and begin the “Healing Process.” It will take time to pick up the pieces and hopefully we will learn from this lesson and not repeat it in the future. We need strong policies that help implement more housing at any income level that is affordable, safe and decent. If more affordable housing was built to meet the needs of the working people of our community, maybe we could have prevented this crisis. Homeownership is the “American Dream” lets make sure that it is attainable and permanent housing not temporary housing.

Your right, we as a community need to come together and work as unit.

I look forward in the near future for Stockton to be #1 in something up building and positive.

I hope your program will offer me and others some Hope.
